High Street Bank (Leicester)
Mercia Environmental Services carried out his high-profile project to a High Street bank in Leicester to remove and dispose of a large volume of asbestos insulation board fire protection above the 1st floor office.
With only one way in and out of the building and asbestos material eight meters up from the first floor, as well as no external space the project was challenging in every sense. We formed an enclosure to the first floor to remove the ceiling in order to expose the contaminated void, environmentally clean all low-level areas. We appointed an Independent Analyst to carry out the required air test.
We formed a second enclosure to allow the removal of windows and allow scaffolding contractors access to the first floor. Road closure permits were required during the scaffolding to allow early morning waste collection. The project was time critical due to bank closure and the planned follow-on refurbishment works.
The project was completed to the highest standards, on time and within budget in addition to liaising with a number of sub-contractors, council officials and follow-on trades.
This project was also subject to a HSE visit due to the complexities and the risks involved. The visiting HSE Inspector had no concerns and gave excellent feedback.
